چکیده

Satellite radar altimeter plays an important role in ocean remote sensing. In China an altimeter will be embarked on the forthcoming HY-2 satellite, which can bring significant benefits to international altimetry society. Modern altimeters adopt I/Q demodulators to detector sea echoes, so the imbalances between the in-phase (I) and quadrature (Q) channels introduce errors on altimeter parameters estimation. This paper begins with the analysis of statistical characteristics of I/Q signals. Based on several assumptions, the PDF of the phase, amplitude and power of altimeter waveforms with I/Q imbalances are deduced. It is shown that in altimeter the amplitude imbalance has more stringent specification. Then the influences of I/Q imbalances on altimeter waveforms are evaluated. The PDF of the echo power spectrum deviates from exponential distribution, and side-lobes appear at the imaginary frequency. Finally, several innovative approaches to measure and/or compensate the imbalances are presented. The theories and results presented in this paper are applicable not only to conventional altimeters, but also to other ocean-observing radar systems.

Estimation and Analysis of Precipitable Water Vapor Using GPS Data and Satellite Altimeter

Determination of water vapor in the atmosphere plays an important role in forecasting weather conditions and precipitation studies. For this reason, it is very important to study the tropospheric delay, especially the wet component, which is due to the presence of water vapor in the atmosphere. In this paper, the amount of water vapor was estimated by altimeter satellite radiometer and GPS data...

Mapping mesoscale currents by optimal interpolation of satellite radiometer and altimeter data

Mapping the mesoscale surface velocity stream function by combining estimates of surface height from satellite altimetry and surface currents from sequential infrared (sea-surface temperature) imagery using optimal interpolation is described. Surface currents are computed from infrared images by the method of maximum crosscorrelations (MCC) and are combined with altimeter sealevel anomaly data ...

Preamble Design for an Efficient I/Q Imbalance Compensation in OFDM Direct-Conversion Receivers

The growing number of different mobile communications standards calls for inexpensive and highly flexible receiver architectures supporting these standards. The direct-conversion receiver is a very attractive candidate for reaching this goal. However, unavoidable imbalances between the Iand the Q-branch of the I/Q demodulator lead to a significant performance degradation at the reception of OFD...

A Virtual Channel-Based Approach to Compensation of I/Q Imbalances in MIMO-OFDM Systems

Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO)-orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) scheme has been considered as the most promising physical-layer architecture for the future wireless systems to provide high-speed communications. However, the performance of the MIMO-OFDM system may be degraded by in-phase/quadrature-phase (I/Q) imbalances caused by component imperfections in the analog fro...
